World Book Day - Thursday 4th March

Today is World Book Day.  On this day in school we would be thinking about and celebrating books and we would be endeavouring to develop a love and enthusiasm for reading books.  Today, I have included some of the activities we would be doing in school.  Please pick and choose the ones that interests your child (you do not have to do everything).  I have asked (if possible) for some activities to be sent into class on the 8th March to create a wonderful 'World Book Day' display.  Thank you, as ever, for your support.   Mrs Nicholson smiley

'Name the Book' Quiz - Watch the video of photos of teachers holding up different objects from much loved story books.  Can you name the story? I have set up a forum on DB Primary titled 'Name the Book', please write your answers on the forum and at the end of the day, I will tell you the correct books.  Have fun!

Name the Book

Listen to the story 'Mr Gumpy's Outing'.  Can you write an alternative ending to the story? Watch the video for a few clues as to how you might do this.

Mr Gumpy's Outing

Challenge! Can you name the story?
Challenge! Can you read to as many people as possible.... brother, sister, on zoom, on the phone! keep a tally chart of how many people you read to.
Can you design a front cover to your favourite book? I would love you to bring your book cover design into school on Monday so we can display them in the classroom.

Can you either dress up as a character or make a prop from a book of your choice.  This can be as small or as big as you like, e.g. you could make a wand for the witch from 'The room on the broom' or an alien hat and be one of the aliens from 'Aliens love underpants!', You could make some of the fruit from 'The Hungry Caterpillar' using play dough or by junk modelling.  Here are a few other suggestions below too. I will be creating a 'World Book Day' display in the classroom; please ask someone to take a photo of you in your costume or holding your prop.

Follow the link to the 'Share a story corner' where you can watch and listen to many wonderful stories being read aloud.
