Woodpeckers - Reception & Year 1
First, we would like to thank you for the kind cards and gifts we have received. We’ve enjoyed teaching your children and will miss having them in our class. We wish them well next year.
We are fast approaching the end of the Summer term and so we would like to take this opportunity to explain the arrangements for the last week and a half of school.
To confirm, as of next Monday (13th July), there is no expectation for home learning to be completed and therefore, weekly overviews and learning tasks will cease for the pupils of Woodpecker Class. This is due to the fact that all of us teachers are now working full time in school and therefore, we cannot continue with the current levels of remote learning. In addition, we also recognise how hard the children have worked during the period of remote learning over an extended period of time. However, for families wishing to continue some form of educational learning before the Summer break, please see a list of recommended websites for educational activities below:
User name: Woodpeckers$
BBC Bitesize: https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/dailylessons (this website provides daily lessons for all year groups)
Oak Academy: https://classroom.thenational.academy/year-groups (educational materials and resources can be found here)
The weekly overviews and activities from the whole of this half term will remain on the class pages should the children wish to complete any missed work. As parents/carers, you know your child best and are in the best position to decide if continuing with remote learning, or having a break, is most beneficial.
In addition to remote learning, all Tapestry and email feedback from ourselves to and from parents will cease too. The children are still welcome to email us pieces of their completed work, but we will be unable to provide any feedback.
Thank you for all your ongoing support with home learning over the last few months. We hope you all enjoy your well-deserved Summer holiday.
With best wishes,
Mrs Gillman and Mrs Luxford.
Welcome to Woodpeckers!
The Class teachers looking after the youngest members of our school community are Mrs Gillman and Mrs Luxford.
They are supported by Mrs Kaye and Mrs Monk.
In Woodpecker Class a large focus for us is learning through play. Outside we might ride bikes, hunt for bugs, play in the mud kitchen or look for letters and numbers hiding in the sand. Inside we could choose to play with the play dough, paint, draw, count, construct or practice writing. There are lots of opportunities for hands-on fun and interaction with a wide range of resources and activities.
A big emphasis is put on developing the children’s confidence and independence in learning, as well as building early skills in literacy and numeracy.
