Spelling Homework
In KS2, we have introduced the use of an on-line platform, Spelling Frame, to support pupils' weekly homework. Spelling Frame is a simple, yet effective resource which allows pupils to practise, test and play games linked to their weekly spellings. Although the programme will be a focus for Spelling homework, in Oak class we will also occasionally use the platform in school to further enhance and apply their weekly spellings.
All words are read aloud (make sure the sound is turned up) and provided within a sentence for context. Additionally, your child’s class teacher can see the results whenever they take a test and can track their progress. When a child misspells a word in a test, it is added to their own ‘Tricky Word’ list. They can then practise with those words they find tricky until they get them right.
Below is a user guide on how to use the online platform.
User Guide:
1. Visit the Spelling Frame website at https://spellingframe.co.uk/
2. Log in with the details provided. (The first part of the username will be Litha-1 followed by the first 3 letters of your child’s first name and first 3 letters of their surname. The logins are randomly generated but fairly easy for the children to remember over time).
3. On your child’s home page, you will find the current Active Tests. Press ‘Go to test’. This will allow them to practise their weekly spellings and when they are ready, take the test. Please note that all children will be tested on their words in class on a weekly basis. The test function should be used at home for additional practice.
4. You will also find on their homepage other games and activities that they can play to support their spelling ability.
Please note that I will continue to provide your child with a paper copy of their weekly spellings in their spelling books which can be taken home. Please remind your child to make sure they have this with them in school on Wednesdays so that the new spellings can be added.
Thank you for your support.
